Review Etnografi Masyarakat Pastoralis : “ book Fields on the Hoof Nexus of Tibetan Nomadic Pastoralism”

Beberapa sosiolog mengkatogerikan masyarakat nomadik sebagai bentuk kehidupan masyarakat pra-desa, yang tidak memungkinkan berkembangnya berbagai tata kehidupan dan organisasi sosial. Namun, tidak sedikit kajian para etnografer yang menunjukkan fenomena sebaliknya. Masyarakat dengan mata pencaharian beternak atau menggembalakan ternak yang hidupnya berpindah-pindah, menunjukkan adanya tata kehidupan dan organisasi sosial yang bersifat tetap atau stabil. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan satu masyarakat pastoralis yang hidup nomadik di dataran tinggi Tibet sebagai masyarakat nomadik yang memiliki tata kehidupan sosial dan budaya yang bersifat stabil. Artikel ini menggunakan kajian literatur atas buku Fields on the Hoof Nexus of Tibetan Nomadic Pastoralism yang ditulis oleh Robert B. Ekvall pada Tahun 1983. Melalui etnografi Robert B. Ekvall ditemukan bahwa masyarakat pastoralis yang hisup nomadik di dataran tinggi Tibet, memiliki pola kehidupan yang stabil. Masyarakat pastoralis nomadik Tibet, mengenal stratifikasi sosial yang erat kaitannya dengan kepemilikan ternak. Terdapat Pola ketenagakerjaan yang merupakan kombinasi dari pola-pola kemasyarakatan dengan pola-pola produksi domestik. Sistem ekonomi bersumber dari kekuatan produksi ternak seperti, daging, bulu, susu, darah, kulit dan kotoran bahkan tanduk. Kekuatan produksi tersebut menjadi sumber pendapatan bagi masyarakat pastoralis. Kawanan ternak menjadi penghasilan subsisten para masyarakat pastoralis. Bahkan pola perkawinan dan bentuk keluarga di dasarkan pada alasan-alasan ekonomi dari pada alasan-sanksi hubungan seksual dan keamanan bagi anak dan bagi institusi perkawinan.
