Abstract

This study aimed to describe and analyze the factors that influenced the working discipline of the civil servants in Sambas Regency Regional Secretariat. The research used descriptive study with a qualitative approach. This study used Singodimejo’s factors influencing discipline theory (in Sutrisno. 2017: 89-92) which consisted of the size of the compensation, the presence or absence of exemplary leader, the presence or absence of rules, the leader’s courage, the presence or absence of leader’s supervision, the leader’s attention, and the habits that supported discipline. The results showed that there was no additional compensation as a reward to discipline employees, the leader had set a good example, there were definite rules that served as a guide for the employees, the leader’s courage became the factor that influence the employees’ discipline in Sambas Regency Regional Secretariat, there was lack of firmness in leader’s supervision of the employee’s discipline implementation, and the presence or absence of attention to the employees influence the employees as motivation to improve discipline, and creating a habit that supported the establishment of discipline was also a factor that affected discipline. The researcher suggests that the leader should do routine supervision to minimize the level of disciplinary violations by the employees and the leader of Sambas Regency Regional Secretariat should further improve employees’ discipline by enforcing regulations and providing sanctions for disciplinary violations
